The voices calling for Colin Kaepernick to get a shot at being the 49ers starting quarterback grew louder after Blaine Gabbert’s performance against the Seahawks on Sunday, and Kaepernick said following the game he’s ready if his name gets called.
“I think I showed that in the last preseason game,” Kaepernick said, via Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury-News. “I’m out at practice every day, working, making sure that I’m ready for when that time does come.”
49ers head coach Chip Kelly said after his team’s the 37-18 loss to the Seahawks that he didn’t give any thought to inserting Kaepernick in place of Gabbert, who finished the game with 119 yards, one interception, and a 51.8 passer rating. But Kaepernick said he would have been ready to play on Sunday if need be.
“Oh yeah,” Kaepernick said. “I’m always ready to step on that field. And looking forward to that opportunity.”
