The most important thing about traveling in another country, or even in the same country, is to always have connection with people you know. You need to make sure your phone is constantly charged. When you go to bed at night, plug it in, in case you do not have time during the day.
If you are traveling abroad, you need to be sure that your data plan for your phone allows you to call home. You may have to pay a few dollars extra, but you will not only feel safer, but you will be also able to call home and make sure your relatives are not worried about you. You will also be able to call the police if something happens.
#2 Keep track of all the places you are visiting
It is very important to keep track of your tours. Write down everywhere you have been to and everywhere you intent to go. It is not necessary that you write in a diary, you may use your phone for the purpose. Check in places, and leave marks on the ones you are about to go to. It is also very important to talk to your family often and even let them know about the places you are going to visit, and when exactly you are going to do it. And most importantly, do not change your plans. You need to leave traces of your trip just in case something bad happens.
#3 Do not keep all your money with you
Even the safest hotels could be broken in, and you never know whether your room will not be the one to suffer the consequences. That is why you should never leave all of your money in your hotel room. On the other hand, there are a lot of tourists who are pitched by local thieves, because they easily notice foreigners. That is why you should never carry all of your money with you. The best thing you can do is to leave half of your money in your hotel room, while the other half to bring with you. This way in any of the above mentioned cases you will still have some money left to rely on.
#4 It is OK to lie
Lies are not a moral thing, but when you are traveling alone they are a must. You can never be sure whether this cute guy who you have met in a bar is telling the truth is really kind or friendly, or whether he wants to take advantage of you. Men can really be pushy in certain countries. You may tell them that you are with your boyfriend, or that you are staying at another hotel depending on the situation and how pushy he really is, but you should never be afraid to lie.
You can even put a ring on your ring finger to really leave the impression that you are married and definitely not alone. You may even carry a picture with you and a brother or some male friend to give more evidence of your claim. Make sure you keep your room a secret, or the fact that you have some money with you.
